Frequently Asked Questions
What should I bring to class?
Gi BJJ - Gi and belt. A rash guard or T-shirt under the Gi is highly recommended.
No-Gi BJJ - Rash guard and spats or shorts.
Kickboxing - A mouthguard. We provide gloves, but students can bring their own.
Some students prefer having a mouthguard for all classes, but it is only mandatory for kickboxing. It's also a good idea to bring a water bottle and gym slippers as sneakers are not allowed past the main entrance.
What should I expect for my first class?
Classes begin with a drill/warm-up, then the instructor will demonstrate the technique of the day to practice with your training partner. Afterwards, live rolling will begin. Live rolling is timed each round and you will have the opportunity to use any and all techniques against other students in a simulated real-world competition environment.
Do I need to have previous knowledge in self defense?
Everyone is welcome from all walks of life. You don't need any previous experience; we will teach fundamentals and expand on any knowledge you already have.
Do I need to contact the academy before coming?
No, walk-ins are welcome! Feel free to stop in and try any of our classes. If it's your first time, please arrive 10 minutes prior to the scheduled start time to sign a waiver and receive a tour.
Is there a locker room or showers?
